In honor of Veterans Day, this presentation by Tara Spada, Curator of Military History, will explore how artifacts from the Tennessee State Museum military collection can teach us how Tennessee and the United States have historically compensated, cared for, celebrated, and remembered our military veterans. RSVP on Eventbrite About the Presenter: Tara Spada is a Military History curator at the Tennessee State Museum. She has enjoyed adventuring in museum collections for over 12 years. She earned an undergraduate degree in Cultural Anthropology and Art from Washington College in Maryland. She completed her thesis on the Naval Academy's museum and visitor perception of women in the Navy using participant observations, surveys, and exit interviews. She earned her MA in museum studies from Johns Hopkins University. Her experiences as a military spouse, moving many times, allowed her to build on that foundation at different museums situated in a variety of communities. Her expertise is in America’s military culture from the 20th century onward, with a special interest in female integration into the armed forces. Her current project is curating the Military Museum located within the Tennessee State Capitol Visitor Center, currently under construction in Nashville in the space previously known as Legislative Plaza at the War Memorial Building. Opening in 2027, it will highlight the legacy of the nickname Volunteer State and tell stories of veterans from across the state. This Lunch and Learn event is in-person in the Museum’s Digital Learning Center at 12:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please email Public.Programs@tn.gov. Guests are encouraged to bring a lunch from home to enjoy during the program.
